Before You Go
Family Contacts - Flight Details For Relatives
It is always a good idea to let a friend or relative have details of how long you will be away for, the name of your accommodation and the contact details for Aegean Flights. Tell them which airline you are flying on, your flight number and your expected UK arrival time if they are planning on collecting you from the airport. As flights can be delayed we recommend they check with the airport before leaving home.
Home Security
It is sensible to take the following precautions before flying away to Turkey:
• Cancel milk and newspapers and any other known deliveries.
• Ask a neighbour to push letters through the letterbox.
• Partially draw curtains and blinds, but not fully.
• If possible install an automatic timer to switch a light on and off.
• Lock all doors and windows including garage and sheds then leave the keys with a trustworthy neighbour.
• Don't reveal your home address on any outbound luggage labels.
Money & Travellers Cheques
Aegean Flights recommended that you take a mix of Sterling cash, traveller’s cheques and a small amount of Turkish Lira (the exchange rate is better in Turkey). If you are taking travellers cheques remember to make a list of serial numbers and keep this separate from the travellers cheques together with contact telephone numbers for the provider of the cheques. It is a good idea to also have to hand the telephone numbers for your credit card providers, in case these are lost at any time during your holiday. Scottish notes are not accepted in Turkey.
In the larger resorts cashpoint machines are widely available.

What To Take
Our advice is always to travel light. Dress on holiday in Turkey is casual and you won’t need different clothes for every evening. Good swim wear, effective sun tan lotion, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, a light jacket or sweater and a pair of light trousers for the evening and a sun hat. If you are travelling as a couple or a family don’t pack one bag for each family member, mix the clothes up. In the unlikely event that a bag is lost by the airline you won’t be completely without clothes for one member of the family. Don’t forget to pack (in hand luggage) such things as essential medicines, spare spectacles or contact lenses and fluid and if you are planning to hire a car your driving license.

Stress Free Flying With Children
Having flown on many occaisions with our own children, we know how important it is to plan ahead and make sure you have an enjoyable time - going home feeling like it you need another holiday to get over it is no fun for anyone. We recommend;
• Leave plenty of time for your journey to the airport.
• Take things to keep the children entertained at the airport and on the flight. Books, paper, pens, travel games, packs of cards - anything that will keep them occupied. If possible take an old favourite and something new as a surprise.
• Take some favourite snacks in your hand luggage in case the in flight snacks are not to their taste (and you may save money as the in flight service isn't free).

Passports & Visas
A full 10-year passport is required for all travel abroad. If you or any of your party, including children and infants, need a new passport, call the Passport Office on 020 7279 3434 and apply at least 12 weeks before departure. Every year we are faced with distraught parents who are not allowed to board their aircraft due to their children having an invalid or expired passport - go and check yours now!
For UK citizens, it is not necessary to obtain a vistors visa before departure as all visitors to Turkey are required to pay a visa tax on arrival (the current charge is £10.00 in cash).
If you hold a British passport giving your status as 'Resident' rather than 'Citizen' under section 3 'Nationality', a Commonwealth or any other passport, you must ask the relevant consulate or embassy if you require a visa.
Regulations do change, so for up-to-date information contact your travel agent or check with our office. It is your responsibility to be in possession of a valid passport and any visa that may be necessary. Be certain to apply in time. In the absence of valid documentation, you will not be allowed to travel.
It is essential that the name and initial on the ticket match those on the passport, otherwise the passenger may not be permitted to travel and any applicable insurance will be ineffective. If you are on your honeymoon and there has not been enough time to amend the passport before departure, then take your marriage certificate with you
___
Lost or Stolen Passports
Please note your passport number before you travel and keep it separate from your passport. We also advise keeping a copy of your passport in a separate place. This will help the local British Consulate to supply a temporary passport at short notice if you lose the original. Report the loss or theft of your passport immediately to the local police, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Consulate, Embassy or High Commission. You can find the details of your local FCO by calling 0870 606 0290 prior to departure, or by visiting www.fco.gov.uk
___
Insurance
It is a necessary condition of the booking that you have adequate travel insurance particularly to cover you for medical requirements. Carry the insurance documents with you in your hand luggage. It is also a good idea to review the policy prior to travelling to ensure that it is suitable for your holiday, note the extent of cover provided and the exclusion clauses. Be familiar with the procedures and contact details for getting help from your insurance company when you are overseas.
___
Wheelchair Assistance
Persons requiring wheelchair assistance need to contact Aegean Flights at least four days prior to departure to make arrangements.
___
Health Requirements
If you take prescribed medicine make sure that you take enough for your stay in Turkey; if possible take a copy of the prescription and carry some or all with you in your hand luggage. Make up a small travellers first aid kit containing small quantities of proprietary upset stomach remedies, travel sickness pills, aspirin or similar, plasters, a dressing, antiseptic cream, insect repellent and burn cream. Check with your GP regarding inoculation requirements, or you can gain advice from the Medical Advisory Service for Travels Abroad (MASTA) available at www.masta.org
___
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant, you should check with your doctor that it is safe for you to travel. If you are more than 28 weeks pregnant at the time of your return flight airlines require a medical certificate of fitness to fly dated within 7 days of your flight. Please note that if you are away for longer than 7 days from getting your certificate in the UK, you will have to obtain a new certificate from a Doctor in Turkey before flying home.
After 32 weeks of pregnancy you will not be allowed to fly and all pregnant passengers must check their travel insurance policies for any cover restrictions that may apply.
